49ers looses another star player to New York Jets… what is Coach Kyle doing
Javon Kinlaw, known for his cautious tackles, is poised to reunite with his former defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, in New York, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The terms of the one-year deal have not been disclosed. Kinlaw, drafted fourteenth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, saw his fifth-year option declined before the 2023 season.
Despite this, he has accumulated impressive stats during his tenure in San Francisco, including 70 combined tackles, five sacks, one interception, and seven passes defended.
His standout year was in 2023, playing all 17 games and tallying 25 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and six quarterback hits.
However, Kinlaw’s NFL journey has been marred by injuries. In 2021, he tore his upper thigh tendon, limiting him to just four games.
The following year, he faced further setbacks with inflammation in his surgically repaired knee, leading to the 49ers shutting him down for the entire 2022 season after playing only six games.
Saleh, now the head coach of the New York Jets, was Kinlaw’s defensive coordinator during his rookie season, making the reunion a significant one for both player and coach.
