Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe leader given same time as Remco Evenepoel after late tangle on descent into Le Lioran
Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) crashed on the final descent on stage 11 of the Tour de France.
The Slovenian came down with 1.1km to go on the way to the finish line in Le Lioran while chasing Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) with Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep). He crossed the finish line 55 seconds behind stage winner Vingegaard and Pogačar and 30 seconds from Evenepoel.
However, race officials later adjusted Rogličs time loss according to the modified UCI 3km rules at Tour de France, which stated that stage 11 would use the 3km rule in Le Lioran, even though it was a mountain stage
Roglič was part of a chase group with rival Evenepoel, both racing for third place on the day after being distanced from Pogačar and Vingegaard on the final climbs of the 211km stage across the rugged Massif Central.glič crashed through a lefthand corner on the descent with 1.1km to go. He slid across the tarmac before getting back on his bike to continue racing.
Because he crashed inside 3km, he was given the same time as Evenepoel, who crossed the line 25 seconds behind the two leaders.
“Today we had the 3km rule, so I think they should give him the time of Remco, because they announced on Radio Tour during the stage that today was the 3km rule in a stage like today, and he crashed inside the 3km,” said DS Enrico Gasparotto speaking to press after the stage, also giving an update on Roglič’s health after the spill.
