Francesco Bagnaia targets championship lead in Australia: ‘Getting the best will always be essentiall’

Francesco Bagnaia remains firmly in contention to become a three-time MotoGP champion. Heading into the Australian GP, he sits second in the standings, just ten points behind leader Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati).

The Ducati rider emphasized the importance of achieving top results while avoiding mistakes at this stage of the season: ‘I am happy to be back on track in Australia. This race will open the last triple-header of the season before the grand finale in Valencia so that it will be crucial. Very few Grands Prix are left now, and getting the best will always be essential, as well as not making mistakes’.

After a nearly perfect weekend in Japan, Bagnaia now faces Phillip Island, a track he knows well. He acknowledged the unique challenges of the Australian circuit but feels confident about his competitiveness:

Ezoic

The last weekend in Motegi, we worked well, but it is also a track that suits my riding style very well. Phillip Island is a fast track where I have always been quite competitive but also a bit peculiar, and the grip of the asphalt and the fluctuating weather conditions always play a key role. In any case, we are ready and will work hard to be fast right from the start.

Jorge Martín and his fears: ‘I didn’t want to go back to the MotoGP bike

Jorge Martín was the MotoGP vice-champion in 2023, battling for the title with Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) until the final race. While this performance could have boosted the rider’s confidence, it also brought fears.

However, Martín soon proved that he was competitive again, as he noted: ‘Then, when I jumped on the bike, I understood that it was the same. I was fast again, and I could fight again. So, now my target is to fight and to give my best’.

With four rounds remaining, the #89 leads the championship ahead of Bagnaia, believing that he has improved, particularly in the mental aspect.

In an interview with the official championship website, the Spaniard from Prima Pramac revealed his insecurities at the start
