The Kinks Return: Ray and Dave Davies confirm recording of another new songs for possible album
The Kinks Return: New Music on the Horizon After Two Decades
In an exciting development for music fans, Dave Davies of The Kinks has confirmed that the iconic band is back in the studio, recording new music for the first time in over two decades. This news follows nearly ten years of speculation and anticipation surrounding a possible reunion of the legendary group.
Last year, Ray Davies hinted at the project during an interview with Channel 4 News, revealing that he was working on a new Kinks record alongside his brother Dave and original drummer Mick Avory. Despite past
Dave Davies further elaborated on the project in an interview with Rolling Stone, noting that the recording process has been ongoing for a couple of years. He mentioned that the band has revisited their extensive catalog, listening to both classic tracks and unreleased material. “Some of that is very good, and some of it needs a bit of work,” he remarked, highlighting the thoroughness of their creative process.
In addition to the new music, a special 50th anniversary edition of their landmark album *Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)* is set for release in October. Dave confirmed that this edition will include additional songs from that era, including his solo track “Hold My Hand,” making it a must-have for fans.
The band has also been crafting new compositions, with Ray taking the lead on songwriting. Drumming duties have been shared between Avory and Bob Henrit, who played with The Kinks from 1984 to 1996. Dave noted that while the new songs are still in demo form, they are of high quality and Ray continues to explore additional material for potential inclusion.
When asked about the possibility of touring, Dave responded cautiously but hopefully: “It’s not out of the question. But at this stage, it’s far too early to say. It would be fun though, wouldn’t it?”
As The Kinks embark on this new chapter, fans can look forward to both fresh sounds and cherished nostalgia. With the prospect of new music and the celebration of their storied past, The Kinks are poised to re-establish their place in the music world once again.
