Alex Crook on Everton transfer verdict on Arnaut
Regarding Arnaut Danjuma’s circumstances at Everton, Alex Crook has expressed his opinion, acknowledging that the Dutchman would “jump” at the chance to depart Goodison Park in January.
Since relocating to Merseyside in the summer, the 26-year-old has struggled to establish himself. He has only scored once in 12 Premier League games and is frequently benched by Sean Dyche.
Danjuma is on loan with the Toffees until the end of the season, but talkSPORT’s chief football reporter, Crook, has admitted that the Dutchman would be keen to leave Everton in January, if the Toffees are able to find a replacement.
According to Give Me Sport (10 January), he stated: “It’s important, in my opinion, that Everton seek a replacement. It’s a bit of an odd signing in the first place because he doesn’t really mesh with Sean Dyche’s style of play.
However, I believe he felt he virtually owed Everton after abandoning his plan to play for Tottenham in January at the last minute. For him, everything has not at all worked out.
“Several European teams, Lyon among them, are eager to sign him. I believe Everton would gladly jump if he could find a successor.
Danjuma’s relocation to Goodison Park hasn’t gone as planned for any number of reasons. The Dutchman has not been able to maintain a regular spot in Dyche’s squad and, when he has, his effect has not been as great as most fans had hoped.
The acquisition of Danjuma this summer was intended to address Everton’s lack of prolific forward options, as most people anticipated the loanee to share the goal-scoring load with Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Toffees tried to avoid relegation.
Danjuma isn’t adding anything to the Toffees right now, so if he’s as eager to leave Goodison Park as Crook has said, it would be best for everyone if the Toffees let him return to Spain and find a new team.
Whoever the substitute is, they would probably be a better addition to Dyche’s team for the second half of the season and would save the Toffees from wasting precious cash on a player who has no desire to play on Merseyside.
