Francesco Bagnaia’s statement about his last win that sparks controversies
For the first time in MotoGP history, a rider could win ten or more races in a season and still not become champion. Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia is on the brink of achieving this unusual feat. With just one race left in the 2024 season, Bagnaia finds himself 24 points behind championship leader Jorge Martín, despite winning ten races.
The key factor behind Bagnaia’s deficit has been his struggles in the Sprint races, a format where Martín has excelled.
Reflecting on his season, Bagnaia admitted to DAZN:
– “Every time I’m missing something; I can’t attack, keep up with the rider in front, and I need to understand that because, in the end, that’s where we lost all those points. When you win ten races and are still 24 points behind, you know you have to improve something.”
With just one round left, Bagnaia’s historic run of wins may not be enough to secure the title, as Martín’s consistency in the Sprints has given him the upper hand.
However, regardless of the outcome, Bagnaia’s ten victories highlight his remarkable talent, even if they aren’t enough for a championship this time.
