Musician Jack White has unleashed a furious condemnation of Donald Trump following the latter’s victory in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election. On November 6, Trump secured 279 electoral college votes, defeating Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, who garnered 223 votes, thus ensuring his return to the White House. White, the frontman of The White Stripes, took to social media to express his shock and outrage at the outcome, describing the result as a disastrous step for America.
White’s social media post included a graphic of a Turkish proverb, which reads: “The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe, for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was one of them.” This stark visual metaphor set the tone for his passionate critique of Trump and his supporters, with White decrying the U.S. election result as the product of a population deceived by a “con man.”
In a fiery statement, White wrote: “Trump won the popular vote. End of story. Americans chose a known, obvious fascist and now America will get whatever this wannabe dictator wants to enact from here on in.” White went on to list several policies and actions he believes Trump will pursue during his second term, 
For White, the election result marks a continuation of what he sees as a perilous trajectory for the country. He wrote, “It’s absolutely dumbfounding that this con man succeeded in pulling the wool over so many Americans’ eyes not once, but twice.” He characterized Trump as a racist, impeached, convicted felon and rapist, who had previously been involved in several scandals, including hiding national secrets, suggesting dangerous medical treatments like injecting bleach, and even endorsing the use of nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes.
