America’s Cup Events BCN and Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) General Manager Grant Dalton, stated on Wednesday in Barcelona regarding the future of the America’s Cup, that they can “possibly foresee, very likely, a new edition of the Cup in 2026.”
Dalton, who made these statements to a New Zealand media outlet covering the event in Barcelona, added: “Of course, we would like to start the regattas in early to mid-January next year and get the show on the road as soon as possible.”
The top leader of the event in Barcelona pointed out, “Well, it’s probably a bit unusual to say something at this stage of the competition, because officially we don’t know who will win. But the teams also want to know what the future holds. I mean, I think it’s timely at this moment because the French team, Orient Express Racing, has been eliminated and they want to know what we are thinking, and our worldview is simply that we need things to move quickly.”
It is important to maintain women’s competition. We could consider holding a Pro-Am regatta with the AC40, because now there are many and they are owned by boat owners
He also revealed, “What is important for us is that we want to maintain the women’s competition. We could consider a Pro-Am regatta with the AC40s, because now there are many of them and in many cases they are owned by boat owners.”
“Latterly,” he continued, “ultimately, with the AC75s. What I want to point out is that we want to get it up and running ourselves. I always have to qualify that if we win, we want to get it up and running quickly. And as I say, it could be done, depending on where, as soon as 2026.”
