Francesco Bagnaia’s Battle for a Third Consecutive MotoGP Title
Francesco Bagnaia faces a tough challenge at this weekend’s Solidarity GP of Barcelona, trailing championship leader Jorge Martín by 24 points. To stay in the title race, Bagnaia knows he must win both races, despite the odds stacked against him.
“I have to go full-send and try to win,” Bagnaia said, acknowledging that gaining 24 points in one weekend is difficult. However, he’s confident in his Ducati’s performance on the Barcelona circuit, where they were dominant in May, finishing first and second while leaving third place 11 seconds behind.
Bagnaia is also aware that Martín has a cushion, which allows his rival to adopt a more conservative strategy.
On a mental level, Bagnaia feels “much freer” this season compared to past title chases, where pressure and nerves affected his performances. He’s now focused solely on enjoying the race and giving his best, saying, “I have to do what I do best – go, enjoy, and try to win.”
While aware that winning may not be enough, Bagnaia remains respectful of Martín’s position and will not do anything to disrupt his rival’s efforts. “Whatever happens, happens,” he said, acknowledging that Martín’s consistency gives him a strong advantage.
As the title fight intensifies, Bagnaia is committed to pushing for victory while understanding the challenges ahead. The Solidarity GP in Barcelona will be pivotal in determining who comes out on top in the 2024 MotoGP season.
