Insight: 49ers Sign Former 6-foot-7 Cowboys Blocker
Although the San Francisco 49ers signed the long offensive lineman before the NFC Championship Game, he won’t play until next season.
This is former Dallas Cowboys 6-foot-3, 320-pound offensive lineman Isaac Alarcon, who signed a reserve/future contract with the 49ers on Tuesday. Alarcon spent time on the Cowboys’ practice squad during the four years he joined the team in 2020.
Dallas signed Alarcon from Mexico in 2020 through the NFL’s International Player Pathway program. Alarcon never moved from practice squad to practice squad. on the active roster, and he tried to switch positions to defensive tackle in 2023 before the season.
Alarcon was waived by the Cowboys during their final roster cuts in August 2023 and never made another team’s practice squad. Alarcon previously played college football at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico.
Alfredo Gutierrez of the 49ers is close friends with Isaac Alarcon. They played together in ITESM and won the Mexican championship in 2019, and Gutierrez also joined the NFL and 49ers through IPPP.
Despite being designated for the practice squad, Gutierrez has only participated in preseason play and has not yet appeared in a regular season game. Since 2021, Gutierrez has been a member of the 49ers practice squad.
San Francisco also has a significant amount of height in Gutierrez. He weighs 332 pounds and is 6 feet 9 inches tall.
“We’re really close friends,” Gutierrez said, via David Lombardi of The Athletic. “We communicate a lot.“
