Alex Marquez respond to aftermath controversy allegation of Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP clash with Francesco Bagnaia.
MotoGP rider Álex Márquez has strongly rejected any insinuation that he deliberately caused the collision with Francesco Bagnaia during the recent Aragon Grand Prix.
The incident, which occurred while the two were battling for third place, has sparked a wave of speculation and controversy, but Márquez insists that such actions are not part of his character or the sport.
The crash happened when Bagnaia attempted to pass Márquez after the Gresini rider ran wide. The collision resulted in both riders crashing out of the race, leading to significant debate about who was at fault. The FIM Stewards reviewed the incident and concluded that “no further action” was necessary, determining that “neither rider was predominantly responsible.”
However, Bagnaia’s post-race comments suggested that Márquez may have intentionally kept the throttle open, leading to the contact. “As soon I entered the corner I heard his engine opening. He was opening the throttle
In response, Márquez took to social media on Monday to clarify his position and address the implications of Bagnaia’s remarks. “After reading some statements, I would like to explain the following: I would never deliberately crash with another rider and I will never accept being charged with it. It is not in my DNA and it is not in the DNA of this sport,” Márquez wrote.
Márquez also emphasized that he had a private conversation with Bagnaia after the race, which he considers to have resolved the matter. “The most important thing for me is the conversation I had yesterday with Pecco, and from my side, the issue is settled,” he added.
The collision, though dramatic, fortunately did not result in serious injuries for either rider. Both Márquez and Bagnaia are expected to be fit and ready to compete at the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix in Misano this weekend.
The Aragon GP itself was won by Álex’s brother and team-mate, Marc Márquez, while Jorge Martin secured second place, further shaking up the championship standings. Martin now holds a 23-point lead over Bagnaia, adding even more tension to the upcoming races.
As the championship battle intensifies, all eyes will be on Misano to see how Márquez and Bagnaia respond on track. Despite the heated exchange, Márquez is focused on recovery and preparation for the next challenge, saying, “Now it’s time to rest and recover my body to be at 100% in Misano.”
