Arsenal “places a £22 million transfer bid” for a Real Madrid player
Arsenal is considering signing Borja Mayoral of Getafe in order to address their striker need.
Mayoral, 26, has scored 14 goals in 22 games across all competitions, making it a season to remember. Getafe is now seventh in La Liga thanks to the Spaniard’s form, giving the Madrid team a chance to make it to Europe for just the fourth time in their history.
In recent weeks, it has been evident that Arsenal needs a new striker. They have only gained one point from their last three Premier League games, falling five points behind leaders Liverpool. Additionally, Jurgen Klopp’s team recently eliminated them from the FA Cup.
The only Arsenal player with at least six goals in the Premier League this year is Bukayo Saka. Eddie Nketiah (five goals), Kai Havertz (four goals), and Gabriel Jesus (three goals) are Mikel Arteta’s other No. 9 possibilities, but none of them has been able to consistently reach the back of the net in the top division.
The striker Ivan Toney of Brentford, who finished his eight-month gambling suspension next week and scored twenty goals in the Premier League last year, is the player that Arsenal would want to sign. The 27-year-old, however, is not going to be sold by the Bees, who are only four points above the relegation zone.
Brentford is already without Bryan Mbeumo due to an ankle injury and Yoane Wissa, who is in the Ivory Coast playing for the DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations. They lack the funds.
Arsenal is now compelled to look elsewhere as a result. Getafe reportedly turned down the Gunners’ £22 million offer for Mayoral, according to The Sun. Arsenal want to get him for a somewhat lower price, but the Spanish club is reportedly holding out for £39 million.
Mayoral, who plays at Getafe with Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United loanee, graduated from Real Madrid’s youth and made 33 appearances for the main team, 24 of which came during their 2017–18 Champions League-winning season.
