Antwerp, July 4, 2025 – It was an unexpected turn of events on an otherwise quiet Thursday evening when Marie Verhulst, daughter of Studio 100 boss Gert Verhulst and known for her role as Samson’s boss, suddenly shared big news on her social media. Her brother, TV producer Viktor Verhulst, reacted with visible surprise – as did thousands of fans. In the comments section under her post it is clear: this news strikes a chord with many, and it seems to herald a new chapter for the popular Marie.

 

A surprising announcement

 

On Instagram, Marie posted an atmospheric photo of herself on a roof terrace at sunset, with a simple but telling caption: “New adventures await. Time to take a different path. ❤️ #newchapter”. Shortly afterwards, a video followed in her stories in which she herself explained what exactly was about to happen.

 

Marie Verhulst will soon be retiring from her role as Samson’s owner. After years of being the face of Samson & Marie on television, on stage and in theatres, she has decided to take a different direction. “I did this with heart and soul and I am eternally grateful to Samson,” she said with tears in her eyes. “But I feel it’s time to try something new. I want to express my creativity in other ways.”

 

Viktor’s spontaneous reaction

 

Viktor Verhulst, who was working on the set of a new VTM series at the time, was “completely surprised” by his sister’s announcement, he said. In the comments under her Instagram post, he wrote: “Wow, Marie! Proud of your courage. You know I’ll always support you. ❤️” That support was noticed and praised by many fans: “What a warm brother!” and “The Verhulsts support each other, beautiful to see”, they said, among other things.

Gert Verhulst also made himself heard. In a short statement via Studio 100, he thanked his daughter for her efforts: “Marie has continued the magic of Samson in a wonderful way. We are proud of her work and wish her every success in what comes next.”

What exactly Marie will do remains somewhat mysterious. In an interview with HLN that will be published on Friday, she promises to provide more details. For now, there are only rumors. Some suspect that she will focus on writing or perhaps making documentaries – a passion she has hinted at before. Others are thinking of an international move, possibly to the Netherlands or even Germany, where Studio 100 is also active.

 

What is clear: Marie wants to continue to challenge herself. She does not rule out that she will ever return to Samson & Marie in a different form, but for now she says resolutely: “It is time to reinvent myself.”
