“Bringing the Aprilia to Fight for the Championship Won’t Be Easy” – Martin Rules Himself Out of the 2025 Title Fight.
Jorge Martin, the rising star of MotoGP, has made a bold declaration regarding his chances of contending for the 2025 World Championship. Despite being one of the fastest riders in the paddock and having demonstrated remarkable talent aboard his Ducati, Martin remains cautious about his future with Aprilia, making it clear that he doesn’t expect to be fighting for the title in the upcoming season.
In an exclusive interview, the Spanish rider stated, “Bringing the Aprilia to fight for the championship won’t be easy.” His words come after news broke that he would be making a move from Ducati, where he has enjoyed significant success, to join the Aprilia Racing Team in 2025. The decision has generated a considerable amount of interest, as Aprilia has shown immense progress over the last few seasons but is still not quite at the level of top contenders like Yamaha, Honda, and Ducati, which have historically dominated the championship fight.
The 2025 season will mark a pivotal point in Martin’s career. After several years of proving his potential with Ducati, the transition to a new manufacturer poses a unique challenge. He acknowledged that while Aprilia is improving, it may not yet be capable of challenging for the championship right off the bat. “There’s a lot of work to be done,” he remarked, underlining the difficulties riders face when adapting to a new bike and team environment.
Aprilia has certainly made strides in recent years, securing podium finishes and becoming a consistent presence in the upper echelons of MotoGP. However, despite the team’s progress, they still find themselves trailing behind the leading manufacturers. Martin’s admission that he doesn’t expect to be in the 2025 title fight echoes the reality that Aprilia’s bike and infrastructure are still evolving.
This doesn’t mean Martin has ruled out success entirely. The 2025 season could very well bring podium finishes and valuable learning experiences as he gets acclimatized to the Aprilia machine. Still, he maintains a grounded approach, understanding that it will take time for him to unlock the full potential of the bike. “I’m not going to start the season thinking about winning the championship.
