Bubba Wallace Reflects on Post-Chicago Incident and Shares New Outlook After Kevin Harvick’s Advice
Pocono Raceway, August 2, 2024— Bubba Wallace broke his silence today about the aftermath of his on-track incident with Alex Bowman during the Chicago race.
Wallace, who had been vocal about the incident, revealed that despite the tensions, he and Bowman have resolved their differences.
In a heated moment after the race at Chicago, Wallace retaliated against Bowman with a door slam.
This came in response to Bowman spinning Wallace out durin Stage 2 of the race. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that both drivers were competing for a spot
According to Wallace, Bowman reached out to him during the weather delay, apologizing for the incident. However, Wallace only responded after the race had concluded.
“Alex texted me, ‘Hey man, sorry, immediately locked up.’ He didn’t mention anything about switches until he got on TV,” Wallace recounted, noting that Bowman had also shared that his car was heavily damaged. Wallace’s response after the race was a wry, “Yeah, real destroyed, nice job on the win.” Despite the initial tension, Wallace confirmed that the two drivers are now on good terms.
In addition to addressing the Bowman situation, Wallace discussed his recent $50,000 fine imposed by NASCAR for his actions following the Chicago race. The timing of the fine coincided with Wallace being at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Kevin Harvick was also present with his son Keelan competing in the Summer Shootout. Wallace and Harvick had a chance meeting, which proved serendipitous.
Harvick, known for his veteran wisdom, offered Wallace some valuable advice during this period. “I will say I got my media training from Kevin Harvick,” Wallace mentioned. He shared how Harvick encouraged him to handle the fine with grace and positivity.
“He told me to show up with a smile on my face and accept it,” Wallace said, adding that Harvick’s advice was both powerful and timely. Wallace embraced the situation with a positive attitude, despite not agreeing with the penalty.
Reflecting on these recent events, Wallace expressed that he believes the experience has ultimately been beneficial for him. “Might not agree with the penalty but I’m smiling about it,” he said, highlighting a renewed outlook on both the incident with Bowman and the fine from NASCAR.
As Wallace continues to navigate his NASCAR career, it remains to be seen how these experiences will shape his future endeavors. For now, it’s clear that Wallace is approaching his challenges with a new perspective, thanks in part to the guidance from a seasoned veteran like Harvick.
