Congratulation to Jessica Tomac and her staff, son Noah and daughter Lev for grand opening of their Baby and Children’s Boutique
For parents of young children in Montezuma County, finding quality clothing and baby products has often meant resorting to chain stores or navigating the vast and impersonal world of online shopping. However, a new, locally owned option has emerged in Cortez that promises to bring a personalized and community-focused shopping experience for families.
Jessica Tomac, the owner of Baby T Children’s Boutique, has transformed what started as a personal hobby into a thriving business that meets the needs of local parents. “It started out as a hobby, then turned into a business,” Tomac shared. “I wanted to bring something to the community we don’t have. People are traveling to Durango and Farmington to find what they need.”
As a mother herself, Jessica understands the importance of finding high-quality, reliable products for children. Together with her husband, Eli Tomac—who is currently the nation’s defending Supercross and Motocross champion—she is raising two young children
“I stock higher quality brands that I love and are in a price range that is reasonable,” Tomac explained. “With a store, people can come in and look and feel the items and see if they like it. You can’t do that online. Exchanges are easier in person at a store too.”
The boutique, located at 44 E. Main St. in Cortez, offers a spacious, well-lit showroom designed with families in mind. The store’s layout includes ample space for strollers and features a colorful, carpeted play area where children can play while their parents shop. The target market includes newborns to 7-year-olds, with an array of carefully curated items for both children and parents.
The boutique offers a wide selection of products, from stylish onesies and infant swaddles to fashionable outfits for both kids and parents. The inventory also includes blankets, toys, stuffed animals, books, shoes, bibs, hats, bags, linens, nursery items, bath essentials, laundry detergent, and more. Additionally, the store carries a selection of high-quality gear such as classy diaper bags, cribs, high chairs, backpacks, strollers, bassinets, and even a skateboard-like scooter.
Jessica has made sure to stock seasonal items as well, with a special selection for fall and Halloween currently available. The boutique also serves as an excellent destination for gift shopping, baby showers, and finding outfits for special occasions. Customers can order items if they are not immediately available in-store, and popular brands like Little Bum Bum, Posh Peanut, Oopsie Daisy, Three Little Tots, and Itzy Ritzy are all part of the store’s offerings.
Beyond just selling products, Jessica is passionate about engaging with her customers and fostering a sense of community. “I’m not as much of an internet pusher—I like to meet with people and help them with what they need. I’ve learned the best brands,” she said. This personal touch is what sets Baby T Children’s Boutique apart from other shopping options.
Although Jessica initially started with online sales, she found the experience too impersonal and decided to open a brick-and-mortar store where she could interact directly with her customers. The online store, which can be found at babytboutique.com, will continue to operate alongside the physical location.
The couple purchased and remodeled the building to create an inviting space, complete with new walls, flooring, ceilings, and lighting, and even added chandeliers for a touch of elegance. “It was fun to turn it around and revive the place,” Jessica said.
Baby T Children’s Boutique will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m. The store’s regular hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, the store can be reached at 901-239-3233.
As the Tomac family continues to balance a busy schedule of raising young children and supporting Eli’s motorcycle racing career, Baby T Children’s Boutique stands as a testament to their commitment to the Cortez community and their desire to provide a valuable resource for local families.
