Cooper Webb Talks Jett Lawrence Crash at Paris Supercross: ” Jett appeared to be well on his way to wining, just as he did in 2023, before he ran up on a lapped rider and crashed in the second race thats When i….”
Cooper Webb claimed the overall victory at Night 1 of the Paris Supercross SX1 (450cc) division, finishing third in Moto 1 and winning Moto 2. His performance on the track at the Paris La Défense Arena earned him a well-deserved win, with a slim points advantage over Malcolm Stewart, who finished second overall. However, Webb’s victory was not without some luck, as he was the beneficiary of a crash by Jett Lawrence, the winner of the first moto.
Webb’s consistent results throughout the night helped him secure the top spot on the podium. In addition to his solid finishes in the motos, Webb also placed second in the Super Pole competition, earning valuable points that gave him a slight edge over Stewart, who finished third in Super Pole and took second in both races.
However, the night’s biggest turning point came during the second race when Jett Lawrence, who had dominated the first moto, crashed. Lawrence, riding the 450cc bike for the first time in an official supercross event,
In a post-race interview, Webb spoke candidly about the crash and its impact on his overall victory. “I was pushing hard, trying to stay close to Jett in the second race. He had such great pace in the first moto, but when I saw he had crashed, I knew it was a big opportunity. I felt for him because crashes are always tough, especially in a race like this,” Webb explained. “But that’s racing. You have to capitalize on the moments when they come, and tonight, I did just that.”
While Webb was able to take advantage of Lawrence’s misfortune, he also acknowledged the talent and speed that Lawrence had shown in the opening moto. “Jett was really strong, and I think everyone saw that. He’s definitely one to watch as we head into the season. I know he’ll bounce back,” Webb said.
With Lawrence out of the second race, Webb’s victory was secure, but it was clear that the Paris Supercross provided valuable lessons for all riders involved. For Webb, it was a night of strong racing, consistency, and capitalizing on opportunities. For Lawrence, it was a harsh reminder of the unpredictability of racing, especially when making the transition to a new class.
Webb’s win at the Paris Supercross is a promising start to his campaign as he prepares for the upcoming SX season. His resilience, ability to take advantage of a situation, and sportsmanship after Lawrence’s crash will be key qualities to watch as the competition intensifies.
