Crypta Makes Historic Mark in U.S. Metal Scene, Sells Out Iconic Whisky a Go Go During First-Ever Headline Tour
In a major milestone for international metal, Brazilian death metal powerhouse Crypta achieved a landmark success during their debut U.S. headlining tour by selling out the iconic Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, California. The historic performance took place in February 2024, as part of their “Shades of Sorrow Over North America” tour, which marked a bold step forward for the band’s global recognition.
- Founded in 2019 by former Nervosa members Fernanda Lira (bass/vocals) and Luana Dametto (drums), Crypta has quickly become one of the most exciting forces in modern extreme metal. Their unique blend of aggressive death metal with melodic undertones has earned them a loyal fanbase worldwide
The Whisky a Go Go, located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, has hosted legendary artists like The Doors, Metallica, and Guns N’ Roses. For Crypta to headline and sell out the venue in their first North American solo tour speaks volumes about their rising popularity and the global reach of their music.
The band’s performance was met with intense energy and roaring enthusiasm from fans, as they performed tracks from both their debut album Echoes of the Soul and their critically acclaimed 2023 release Shades of Sorrow. Songs like “Trial of Traitors,” “Lord of Ruins,” and “Dark Clouds” drove the crowd into a frenzy, showcasing the band’s musical evolution and command of the stage.
In an interview following the show, Fernanda Lira expressed gratitude:
“Playing the Whisky a Go Go is a dream for any musician. Selling it out during our first headlining tour in the U.S. is surreal. We felt the love and energy from the crowd—it was unforgettable.”
The tour, which ran from late January through early March 2024, took Crypta across 30 cities in the U.S. and Canada, solidifying their foothold in the North American metal scene. It also marked the first major tour with guitarist Jéssica di Falchi, who was officially welcomed as a permanent member in late 2023.
As Crypta continues to rise, moments like this serve as clear proof that their brand of dark, intense, and unapologetic metal resonates across cultures and continents. The Whisky a Go Go performance will undoubtedly be remembered as a defining point in the band’s international ascent.
