Crystal Palace forward might be leaving club for a deal of as much as £1.75 million

This weekend, Valley Parade is set to witness a return reminiscent of City’s playoff days as John-Kymani Gordon makes a significant appearance. Gordon played a pivotal role in City’s playoff defeat at Carlisle in May, pressuring Brad Halliday into an own goal that opened the scoring.

During the summer, Bradford City was in talks to sign the Crystal Palace forward, indicating interest in bringing him on board. However, negotiations fell through, and Gordon eventually joined Cambridge in League One. Despite limited opportunities at Cambridge, Gordon has recently made a move to Wimbledon, marking a new chapter in his career.

Gordon made his debut for Wimbledon last week in a 2-1 victory over Mansfield, contributing to keeping their playoff aspirations alive. Wimbledon, managed by Johnnie Jackson, has been active in the transfer market during the current window. The team witnessed the departure of top scorer Ali Al-Hamadi to Championship rivals Ipswich, in a deal reportedly worth up to £1.75 million—a record fee for Wimbledon since their improvement.

Al-Hamadi’s departure follows in the footsteps of Ayoub Assal’s move to Al-Wakrah in the Qatari League, generating £1.2 million last year. In response, Wimbledon secured the services of Gem Palace central defender Kofi Balmer, who had his loan spell with Port Vale in the first half of the season cut short due to a torn hamstring.

Additionally, Wimbledon acquired the services of tough-tackling midfielder John-Joe O’Toole just before the transfer deadline, on loan from Mansfield. These moves reflect a dynamic and strategic approach by Wimbledon in reshaping their squad for the challenges ahead.

Johnnie Jackson, expressing optimism about the team’s prospects, emphasized the importance of the next three months, stating, “We have a great opportunity to do something as a group.” He urged the team to push forward and remain strong for the remainder of the season, emphasizing a collective effort to avoid any potential disintegration. As Wimbledon navigates the rest of the season, the additions to the squad and the departure of key players set the stage for an intriguing and competitive period in the League One campaign.
