Eli Tomac Gears Up for 2025 AMA Supercross Season: Eyeing a Return to Dominance
Eli Tomac, the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider, is ready to take on the 2024 AMA Supercross season with renewed focus and determination. After a championship-winning performance in the World Supercross Championship (WSX) and a rollercoaster ride through the AMA series in recent years, Tomac is eyeing a return to Supercross dominance—something he’s already accomplished twice before.
In a recent conversation on the *6D Helmets Midweek Podcast* with Donn Maeda, Tomac reflected on his off-season, his current mindset, and his goals for the upcoming season. At 32 years old, Tomac’s career has spanned over a decade, and his experience has become one of his biggest assets. When asked about his approach to racing at this stage in his career, Tomac was candid.
“When I was young and green at 17, I’d see 30-year-old guys and think, ‘Wow, they’re old.’ But now that I’m here, I realize this is prime time,” he said. “With all the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, this feels like the moment to shine.”
This is a clear indication that Tomac feels confident and ready to compete at the highest level once again. His veteran status gives him a unique advantage, with years of learning from both victories and setbacks that help shape his approach to each season.
2022 and 2023: Lessons Learned from Setbacks
Tomac’s recent years have been a mix of triumph and disappointment. In 2022, he was on the verge of claiming another
Still, Tomac’s resilience has remained unwavering. Reflecting on his past two seasons, he said, “I feel like I did at the start of 2022 and ’23,” signaling that he’s entering 2024 with a renewed sense of purpose and a drive to get back to the top of the Supercross podium.
2025 Ready for the Challenge
As the 2024 season approaches, Tomac is focused on being as prepared as possible for the first round in Anaheim. His offseason has included not only physical training but also mental preparation, and the support of the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha team gives him a solid foundation as he looks to compete at the highest level. Being part of one of the largest and most successful teams in the pits is a significant advantage.
Tomac also spoke about the team dynamics, saying, “It’s a big team, a lot of guys working behind the scenes, and that gives me a lot of confidence going into the season.” This level of support is crucial as he looks to mount another championship challenge.
Rivalry with Jett Lawrence
No conversation with Tomac would be complete without acknowledging the fierce competition in the 450 class. Jett Lawrence, the 2023 250SX Champion, has quickly become one of the sport’s brightest stars, and Tomac knows that beating him will be key to securing another championship.
“Jett Lawrence is obviously the biggest target—he’s the one everyone is gunning for,” Tomac said. “You’ve got to beat Jett.” However, Tomac also knows that the field is stacked with other formidable riders, including Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton, Jason Anderson, and Ken Roczen.
“It’s a toss-up until racing starts,” he added, showing respect for the level of competition he will face in 2024.
A Season of High Expectations
With the experience, confidence, and skill to challenge for a title, Tomac enters the 2024 season with high expectations. His recent WSX championship only adds to the momentum he brings into Supercross, where he’ll be determined to reclaim the dominance he enjoyed in 2020 and 2021. As the new season approaches, Eli Tomac remains one of the sport’s most dangerous contenders, ready to take on the best and prove that age is just a number.
