Eli Tomac on Recent interview as he speaks on Preparation for SMX Finals, Insights from budd creeks and thumb injury on race so far
Eli Tomac, the celebrated motocross star, is gearing up for the highly anticipated SuperMotocross (SMX) finals after a challenging but enlightening series of races leading up to it. In a recent interview, Tomac discussed his preparation journey, including his performance at Budd’s Creek and the state of his recovery from a lingering thumb injury.
Preparation and Series Goals
Tomac’s primary focus upon returning for the last two national events was to prepare for the SMX finals. “Yes, that is the intention of being here,” Tomac affirmed.
“But at the same time, I intended on racing this whole series of motocross, so I was just excited to get back to it.” His commitment to both the national series and the upcoming SMX finals underscores his dedication to maximizing his competitive edge.
Reflecting on his preparations, Tomac shared that he was close to being race-ready by the time Unadilla rolled around, but he decided to give himself an extra week of preparation. This decision was aimed at refining his performance ahead of the crucial SMX races.
Challenges at Budd’s Creek
At Budd’s Creek, Tomac demonstrated his prowess with a strong fourth-place finish in the first moto. However, his performance in the second moto was less stellar. “I just did not ride as well in moto two, and I got a worse start,” Tomac admitted. “I made a few bike changes, and I was just not as comfortable, so I was just a little more reserved in my riding.” These factors contributed to a more challenging second moto, where Tomac struggled to advance as he had hoped.
Despite the setback, Tomac remains focused on his goal of strengthening his performance before the SMX finals. “It was just more of a struggle in moto two – and that was that,” he reflected, acknowledging the difficulties while maintaining a forward-looking perspective.
Recovery and Future Outlook
Tomac’s recovery from a thumb injury has been a significant aspect of his preparation. “My thumb is probably 90 percent right now from my previous strength,” he noted. While his thumb is sufficiently healed to compete safely, it is not yet at its previous full strength.
is realistic about his expectations, recognizing that he may not immediately return to his pre-injury performance levels. “My expectations should not be right back to where they were before I had this injury,” he said. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about his progress. “As long as I stay healthy now, I will keep building and getting stronger.”
As Tomac continues to recover and prepare for the SMX finals, his focus remains on both improving his physical condition and refining his race strategies.
With his determination and experience, he is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming high-stakes races. Fans and fellow competitors alike will be watching closely as Tomac aims to showcase his resilience and skill in the SuperMotocross finals.
