Eli Tomac reflects on 1 of his big wins when he won $1M in Supercross all-star race in Las Vegas
Eli Tomac captured the spotlight at the Monster Energy Cup Supercross held at Sam Boyd Stadium, securing a remarkable $1 million bonus by sweeping all three main events of the all-star race on Saturday night.
His performance was a testament to his dominance, making him the second rider in as many years to achieve this feat.
Tomac, who hails from Cortez, Colorado, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout
Starting from seventh place, Tomac showcased his racing prowess by overtaking fellow Kawasaki rider Joey Savatgy on the final lap, thrilling the packed crowd.
“I’m just full on—that’s all there was to it,” Tomac, 25, remarked after his victory. He became the first repeat winner in the event’s eight-year history, having also won the Monster Energy Cup in 2016, albeit under different circumstances with a single race victory that year. This time, his consistent performance across all three motos solidified his win.
In the first main event, Savatgy initially took the holeshot, but Tomac quickly surged ahead on the second lap, finishing 3.3 seconds ahead of 2017 Monster Energy Cup winner Marvin Musquin. Savatgy, who had been competitive throughout the night, settled for third overall in cumulative points.
The second moto saw Tomac further establish his dominance, winning by a substantial 4.1-second margin over Justin Barcia, with Joshua Grant, Malcolm Stewart, and Jason Anderson rounding out the top five.
The night wasn’t without its challenges. A collision under the Monster Energy bridge between Chad Reed and Musquin during the second main event disrupted their races, with both riders finishing far from the podium.
Reed’s Suzuki was forced out of contention, while Musquin, who was vying for second place, ended up ninth after the incident.
Tomac’s performance was a masterclass in Supercross racing, marking an extraordinary night in the sport and setting a high bar for future competitors.
