Enea Bastianini statement on the Bagnaia and Márquez MotoGP crash at Aragon GP
Ducati faced a major setback at the MotoGP Aragon GP as their lead rider, Francesco Bagnaia, was forced to retire with six laps remaining following a dramatic collision with Álex Márquez of the Gresini Racing team.
The incident, which occurred during a tense battle for third place, left both riders out of contention and raised questions about what exactly transpired on the track.
As the race neared its conclusion, Bagnaia had just executed a successful overtaking maneuver on Márquez, positioning himself ahead in the fight for the final podium spot.
However, moments later, the two made contact in a corner, resulting in a crash that ended their races prematurely. The
Enea Bastianini, Bagnaia’s Ducati teammate, was asked to provide his perspective on the incident. Bastianini, who had a limited view of the situation, offered a reserved response, stating, “I don’t know.
I didn’t see the situation very well. But I saw Pecco was in front; I don’t know if Álex saw Pecco – maybe yes, but I don’t know.”
The incident marks a significant blow to Ducati, particularly as Bagnaia was in contention for a strong finish.
With both riders out of the race, Ducati’s hopes for a successful outcome at Aragon were dashed, and attention now turns to understanding the circumstances that led to the crash.
As the MotoGP season progresses, the fallout from the Aragon GP could have lasting implications for the championship standings, with Bagnaia’s retirement representing a missed opportunity to close the gap on his rivals.
The incident also underscores the unpredictable and high-stakes nature of MotoGP racing, where a split-second decision can make the difference between victory and disaster.
