Francesco Bagnaia’s impressive winning streak came to a halt at the MotoGP British Grand Prix, where he finished third behind his Ducati teammate Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martín of Prima Pramac Ducati.
Bagnaia, who had been leading the championship, saw his position change as Martín overtook him and secured the top spot, leaving the Italian rider to reflect on his performance.
The race at Silverstone marked a challenging weekend for Bagnaia, beginning with a crash during the Sprint race that compounded his difficulties. In a post-race press
“The first thing I want to do this afternoon and these days is to check everything on the data and know everything, because I want to know what I did wrong,” he stated.
“Honestly, I was thinking that I was managing everything well in terms of pace and tyres, but then when Jorge overtook me, I saw he was in better shape than me. I started to struggle a lot and lost the front.”
Bagnaia noted that his struggles with the front tire were not unprecedented, particularly with the medium compound chosen for the race. “It’s not the first time this is happening; every time I’m not fully happy with the front tire, I end up overworking the rear tire because I can’t force the front to let the bike turn,” he explained.
Despite these challenges, Bagnaia managed to finish in third place, a result he described as the best he could achieve under the circumstances.
Looking ahead, Bagnaia is setting his sights on the upcoming round in Austria. “We’ll move on to Austria, which is a track that I like and suits my riding style better, and we’ll try to do again what we did last year,” he said optimistically.
As he prepares for the next race, Bagnaia remains hopeful of regaining his form and reclaiming his position at the top of the championship standings.
