Francesco Bagnaia mind blowing statement as he set for Intense Battle at Aragon GP
Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning MotoGP World Champion, is set to defend his championship lead this weekend at the Aragon GP, a race he anticipates will be highly competitive and thrilling.
The Italian Ducati rider, who has shown remarkable form in the past two seasons, expressed his excitement and readiness during a press conference, highlighting both his affection for the track and the fierce competition he expects to face.
“First of all, I’m happy to be here because I like the track,” Bagnaia said. “The layout is fantastic; it’s a mix of good tracks, braking is there, fast corners are there. I think we can enjoy. Our bike was suiting perfectly the layout the last two times we were here.”
Bagnaia’s optimism stems from his past successes at Aragon, where he secured his first MotoGP victory in 2021 after an intense battle with Marc Márquez. However,
“I think we can have a good potential. We know Marc is super fast on this track, and also Jorge. But I think it will be a battle between all four of us, because Enea won last time here, I won in 2021, Marc won six times I think, and Jorge was always fast. So it will be a nice battle,” Bagnaia explained. “I hope to enjoy the weather, I hope to enjoy the new asphalt.”
When asked if Aragon could witness one of the most intense and close battles of the season, Bagnaia was optimistic but realistic. “Let’s see. It could be nice to have a nice battle between us.
For sure every time in this track was difficult to open a gap, but I think the battle is always fantastic because we have many corners and it would be nice to have a battle like we had in 2021 – and also in 2022 with Enea. He was there, pushing every lap to close the gap that was 0.7s apart from the last two laps, and then he overtook me. So it was a nice battle also in 2022.”
Reflecting on his first MotoGP win at Aragon, Bagnaia noted how his approach to racing has evolved with experience. “My mentality didn’t change: I want to win. The only difference between my first victory in 2021 and now is that right now I know a different way to win.
If the 2021 race was now, I would try to manage more the gap, to have more margin between me and Marc in that case. But the fight could be the same, and it could be fantastic to have the same fight and also the same result on Sunday. It would be fantastic.”
As Bagnaia prepares for what could be one of the most challenging races of the season, fans can expect a thrilling showdown at Aragon. With the competition so closely matched and the stakes so high, the Aragon GP is poised to be a defining moment in the 2024 MotoGP championship race.
