Francesco Bagnaia Overcomes Challenges to Secure Third Place at MotoGP Indonesian GP
Francesco Bagnaia faced a challenging Sunday at the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix in Mandalika, but his resilience allowed him to recover from a difficult start and finish in third place.
In a post-race press conference, the Italian rider reflected on his rocky launch. “I tried to do the same start as yesterday, but the clutch had a different reaction,” he explained. A minor wheelie caused his bike to spin, leading to a less-than-ideal position off the line. Although he managed to minimize his losses initially, he admitted to being “a bit too careful” in the first lap, which resulted in losing valuable positions and struggling to regain them.
Despite the challenges he faced, Bagnaia felt confident in his pace throughout the race. He noted that his lap times were competitive, stating, “I think the fastest lap I did this year was very close to the one I did last year.”
Once he finally got past Bezzecchi, Bagnaia found it easier to overtake Franco Morbidelli, as both riders shared similar bike setups. “With the same bike as me, I knew what to do better,” he noted.
Despite the frustrations of the start and the overtaking difficulties, Bagnaia expressed satisfaction with his performance under the circumstances. “I’m happy, because it was difficult to do better than this today. We managed to gain points in this race, and it’s okay,” he concluded.
As Bagnaia looks ahead, his focus will be on refining his starts and continuing to build on the momentum gained from this race, ensuring he remains competitive in the championship standings.
