Francesco Bagnaia Reflects on Crash at MotoGP Sprint Race During British Grand Prix
Francesco Bagnaia’s pursuit of a podium finish at the MotoGP Sprint race during the British Grand Prix was cut short when he crashed six laps from the end. The Ducati rider lost the front of his bike at turn four while aggressively chasing top positions and was forced to retire from the race.
Bagnaia took full responsibility for the crash, admitting, “I did a mistake honestly. I’ve been very fast at turn
His candid reflection underscores the fine line between aggression and control in high-stakes racing.
Discussing his performance up until the crash, Bagnaia revealed some initial difficulties. “I did a very good start, but the rear height device didn’t disengage, so I did the turns 1 and 2 with the bike in a lower position and I lost places, so I was fourth,” he said.
He also struggled with rear grip in the early laps before finding his rhythm and closing the gap to the leaders. Despite this, the crash ultimately ended his race.
Bagnaia also addressed the issue of tyre performance, suggesting that the available options were less than ideal. “I have to say that in this moment we don’t have the correct front tyres because the temperature is not allowing us to ride with the hard, but the medium is strange and the soft is finished after two laps,” he explained.
He felt that the medium tyre was the best choice under the circumstances, but a minor speed increase exiting turn three contributed to his mishap at turn four.
The 2022 and 2023 MotoGP champion expressed regret over his mistake and apologized to his team for the error. “I already said sorry to my team because they have done a perfect job like always. Honestly, I just did a mistake,” Bagnaia said.
As he reflects on the incident, Bagnaia’s analysis highlights the challenges of balancing risk and control in MotoGP racing, as well as the impact of technical factors such as tyre choice.
