Francesco Bagnaia secured a crucial podium finish at the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix, finishing third behind championship leader Jorge Martín of Prima Pramac Ducati. This result helped Bagnaia minimize the points lost in the ongoing championship battle.
In a post-race press conference, Bagnaia reflected on the challenges he faced throughout the weekend. “Unfortunately, we lost a bit of our way between Friday and
“The wind increased a lot yesterday, and we had to make adjustments for the race that didn’t quite work out,” he explained. This struggle became evident during the race, where Bagnaia initially struggled to maintain pace, finishing fourth at one point.
Despite showing some improvement on race day, Bagnaia acknowledged that the adjustments made were perhaps too late. “In the warm-up, we tried a different set-up that worked much better, but it might have been too late,” he said. Although he felt more comfortable during the race, he still experienced difficulties with the bike’s handling. “It was a step forward compared to yesterday, but not by much,” he noted.
As the race progressed, Bagnaia faced further challenges with tire management. “I started feeling like I was forcing the front a lot, and after 15 laps, I completely wore it out,” he explained. As he tried to compensate with the rear tire, he soon encountered similar issues. “In the last five laps, I was completely in trouble,” he admitted.
Bagnaia’s podium finish, while not ideal, is significant in the context of the championship standings. As the season approaches its climax, every point matters, and his ability to secure a third-place finish despite the hurdles showcases his resilience and skill as a rider. With the next races ahead, Bagnaia and his team will look to build on this experience and improve their performance as they chase the title.
