“I have no words for it” – Former French Open champion astounded at Novak Djokovic’s Olympics achievement
After finally adding the elusive Olympic gold medal to his resume, Novak Djokovic has completed another “mind-boggling” act, according to former World No.2 Michael Chang.
Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling final at the Paris Olympic Games to claim his maiden gold medal at the quadrennial event. The Serbian was coming off meniscus surgery, after sustaining an injury at the French Open a few weeks earlier.
Nonetheless, the 23-time Grand Slam champion displayed his trademark grit and tenacity, finishing runner-up at Wimbledon before winning gold at the Olympics
Furthermore, Chang was adamant Djokovic would not be retiring anytime soon, despite accomplishing everything there is to attain in the sport.
“I’m not sure Novak’s going to stop yet, actually,” said the retired American. “Actually I don’t think he’s going to ever stop. What he’s done is just absolutely incredible. We’ve had this generation of players; Roger, Rafa is winding his career down, Andy just retired, Serena retired not that long ago. I mean, you’ve got these incredible players.
“And thankfully, we’ve got great young talent that are able to take their place, and they’re doing a great job. I mean, how can you not enjoy watching Alcaraz out there? He’s winning, but he’s smiling at the same time. Jannik Sinner is just an incredible talent, very humble, and has got all the different kinds of shots. So how do you not enjoy watching this new generation kind of grow and mature and really start to take their place?”
