Jaden Agassi Graf: Son of Tennis Legends Pursues a different sport at the World Stage
Jaden Agassi Graf, the son of tennis icons Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, is forging his own path toward professional sports—though not on the tennis court. Instead, the young athlete is taking a different route entirely, aiming to make a name for himself as a pitcher in baseball. As the World Baseball Classic (WBC) Qualifiers in Tucson approach, Jaden is gearing up to represent Germany, as Brazil, Germany, Colombia, and China will face off in early March.
Though his parents are synonymous with tennis greatness, Jaden has always had a deep love for baseball. “I loved it. I’ve picked up a tennis racket a good amount, but it was always hard for me to keep that ball in between the lines. I just wanted to hit that thing as far as I could. Baseball had my love since day one,” Jaden shared in an interview.
Jaden’s decision to pursue baseball over tennis is no surprise when considering his natural inclination for the sport. He mentioned that while tennis intrigued him, it was baseball that truly captivated his attention and passion from the very start. Yet, despite choosing a different sport, Jaden still finds ways to humorously compare his athletic journey to that of his parents, especially when reflecting on his composure on the mound. “I compare my composure on the mound to my mother’s on the court,” he joked. “But I’ve got to give the edge to my dad. He did a Nike commercial way back where he’s taking batting practice at Fenway, treating it like a backhand, and crushes it.”
While the tennis world knows Agassi and Graf for their incredible dominance on the court—both players achieving the No. 1 ranking during their careers—Jaden’s journey is now focused on creating his own legacy in
Jaden’s baseball career began to take shape after a challenging start in college, where he struggled with a 6.20 ERA. However, he showed significant improvement and growth in the MLB Draft League last year, finishing the season with an impressive 2.96 ERA. His hard work and progress were further recognized when he was named Player of the Week on July 9, marking a turning point in his athletic development.
Now, with the opportunity to represent Germany in the WBC Qualifiers, Jaden is ready to take the next step in his career. “I’m so excited,” he said about his upcoming international competition. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little boy to compete on an international scale. [I want to] make my mom proud, make Germany proud and do them right.”
Jaden’s deep sense of pride in his heritage and his desire to honor his family and country is evident in his commitment to the sport and the upcoming tournament. He’s not just playing for himself but for a much larger purpose: to represent Germany on the world stage and continue the legacy of excellence that his parents established.
With baseball now his focus, Jaden Agassi Graf is ready to step out from the shadow of his legendary parents and make his own mark in the sports world. Whether or not he achieves the same level of success as his mother and father, one thing is clear: Jaden has the determination, passion, and talent to write his own chapter in the world of sports. As he heads into the WBC Qualifiers, all eyes will be on him as he continues to prove that he is a rising star in his own right.
