Jeremy Coker, team manager for Star Yamaha releases statement on Eli Tomac contract with team, health and about next race
In a heartbreaking turn of events at the Denver Supercross, Eli Tomac, one of the sport’s most celebrated riders, suffered a devastating injury mid-race.
Tomac was on track for what seemed like another dominant victory when he suddenly pulled off due to a torn Achilles tendon, forcing him to retire from the event.
The gravity of the situation was captured in a statement released by Jeremy Coker, team manager for Star Yamaha. Coker conveyed the emotional impact of the injury, saying, “It’s hard to really put it in words, to be honest.
Obviously, this is a tough one for Eli and the whole team.
Our first thoughts are with Eli, and we wish him a speedy recovery. This is, unfortunately, part of the sport, but it’s still a tough one.”
Tomac’s injury is a significant blow to both his fans and the sport itself. Known for his speed and sportsmanship, Tomac has been a formidable presence on the track. Personal conversations with him reveal a character as genuine and dedicated as he is fast.
The possibility that this injury might end his career prematurely is a tough pill to swallow. Tomac had initially planned to retire after Supercross but had postponed that decision until after Pro Motocross.
Given the severity of the Achilles injury and the anticipated lengthy recovery period, it is uncertain whether he will return to racing.
As Tomac embarks on what will likely be a lengthy and challenging recovery process, the motocross community joins in wishing him a swift and full recovery.
His legacy as one of the sport’s greats is firmly established, and it would be a tremendous loss to see such a remarkable career end under these circumstances.
We can only hope that, despite the setbacks, Tomac will find the strength and determination to make a comeback, should he choose to.
