DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — In a thrilling race at Daytona International Speedway, Jett Lawrence emerged victorious, ending Eli Tomac’s dominance at the venue.
Lawrence’s win marked a significant moment in motocross history, as he became only the third rider in the past decade to finish ahead of Tomac at Daytona.
Tomac, who had previously been unbeatable at Daytona,
with Tomac finishing in second place both times. Despite Tomac’s consistent performance and dominance in the sport, Lawrence managed to overcome the odds and secure a memorable win.
Reflecting on his performance, Lawrence shared his exhilaration with NBC Sports’ Will Christien from the podium.
“It felt great,” he said. “I felt good all day. But like I said earlier, I came here for business. I stood on business so I’m just happy to come out of here with a win. Hopefully, we can keep clicking them.”
The victory was not without its challenges. Lawrence’s team made a last-minute decision to change his back tire just before the race, creating a tense moment as they removed the cover with mere seconds to spare.
“I was tweaking at that point,” Lawrence admitted, highlighting the stressful circumstances leading up to his win.
