Jorge Martin drops bombshell on his opinion on the crash involving his title rival Pecco Bagnaia at the Aragon MotoGP.
Jorge Martin’s championship hopes received a significant boost at the Aragon Grand Prix as he capitalized on a crash by title rival Francesco Bagnaia, maintaining his impressive streak of podium finishes while seizing the lead in the MotoGP World Championship.
Heading into the weekend, Martin was trailing Bagnaia by five points, with the Italian enjoying recent successes, including victories in both the Sprint and Grand Prix in Austria. However, Aragon proved to be a turning point in the title race.

On lap 18, Marquez ran wide at Turn 12, creating an opening for Bagnaia. As the reigning champion tried to capitalize on the mistake, the two riders collided at Turn 13, causing both to crash out of the race.
The incident marked a pivotal moment in the championship, as Martin, who had already secured second place in the race, continued his remarkable run of form. The Spaniard has now finished second in all six races since the summer break, demonstrating consistency that has propelled him to the top of the standings.
In the post-race press conference, Martin was asked about the crash between Bagnaia and Marquez. While he refrained from assigning blame, he acknowledged the difficulty of the situation: “It’s difficult,” Martin said.
“You should ask Pecco [Bagnaia] and Alex [Marquez]. For sure, it’s difficult to see because also there was a lot of dust on that side, so I think Alex couldn’t lean more… and finally, there was contact.”
Fortunately, Bagnaia escaped serious injury in the crash. He was taken to the medical center where scans revealed no broken bones, though he did report pain in his neck and left shoulder. Despite the discomfort, Bagnaia is expected to race in the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, though the short recovery time may pose a challenge.
As the championship now heads to Misano, Bagnaia faces a tough task on his home soil. Although he has previously won twice at the circuit in the MotoGP class, Martin’s current form and his double victories at Misano in 2023 make him a formidable contender.
With a 23-point lead heading into the race, Martin has the momentum, but Bagnaia will be eager to bounce back in front of his home crowd.
The stage is set for an intense battle at Misano, with both riders vying for the upper hand in the championship race. As the 2024 MotoGP season nears its climax, every point and every decision on the track could prove decisive.
