Ken Roczen’s statement after the 250 CLASS AT IRONMAN NATIONAL: A Strategic Move for SMX Championship Success”
Ken Roczen, the renowned motocross star with the number 94, recently made headlines by competing in the 250 class for the first time in over a decade. This unexpected move excited fans and added a fresh dynamic to the racing scene.
Roczen’s decision to race on a Suzuki RM-Z250, a shift from his usual 450cc machine, showcased his versatility and passion for the sport.
In his return to the 250 class at Ironman Raceway, Roczen demonstrated impressive skill and adaptability.
Despite a challenging field, he managed to finish within the top ten, showcasing his ability to compete with the younger, highly skilled riders.
The second moto saw Roczen start from 15th place, but he aggressively worked his way through the pack. He climbed as high as sixth position before opting to ride conservatively to avoid any risk of injury.
With his focus set on the upcoming SMX Championship, Roczen chose to prioritize his recovery and preparation for the higher stakes of the SuperMotocross Finals.
Roczen’s brief stint in the 250 class served as a valuable experience. He acknowledged the tough transition but expressed satisfaction with his performance. “Wow. What a fun day stepping down to the Lites class for this past weekend in Ironman,” said Roczen.
“I always knew it was going to be a tough transition but I was happy with qualifying in second place. I showed speed in the motos, but ultimately wanted to stay safe on the track as I prepare for the SuperMotocross Finals. I learned a lot, which will help me in a few short weeks in Charlotte.”
With the SMX Championship on the horizon, Roczen’s experience in the 250 class may offer him an edge as he transitions back to the 450 class for the hybrid Supercross-Motocross tracks.
After finishing as the runner-up in last year’s inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship, Roczen is poised to be a formidable contender in the upcoming three-round season in September.
