KSNT NEWS: Topeka man identified as latest homicide victim
TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Police Department has identified the victim of the city’s 17th homicide victim for the year.
the TPD said in a press release that Ricky R. Washington Jr. of Topeka was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel after officers responded to a shooting situation on Nov. 10. He was 45 years old.
On Sunday morning, officers found two people with life threatening injuries in the 1200 block of Southwest Huntoon Street. Police said the second person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
This investigation is ongoing.
Topeka police on Tuesday identified the city’s 17th homicide victim of 2024.
Police said Ricky R. Washington Jr., 45, of Topeka, was shot and killed around 9 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of S.W. Huntoon.
Washington was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
One other person was wounded in the shooting and was taken to a local hospital. That person was said to have life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the shooting was ongoing Tuesday.
Additional details in Sunday’s shooting weren’t available on Tuesday morning.
A year ago at this time, the capital city had recorded 33 homicides and finished 2023 with a record 35 slayings.
