Already into the third month of 2024, let’s take a look at what snooker events are taking place in March.
February was a busy period on the calendar with several trophies being handed out on the main tour.
Judd Trump secured a fourth ranking title of the season with his triumph in the German Masters at the Tempodrom.
On the amateur scene, the WSF Championship and the WSF Junior Championship were won by Cheung Ka Wai and Bulcsú Révész respectively, with the pair earning two-year cards to compete on the pro tour.
The Albanian Women’s Open was won by Ng On Yee with the Hong Kong cueist outlasting women’s number one Mink Nutcharut in a decider.
There will be plenty more snooker on TV and online during the month of March, so let’s take a look at what’s coming up on the schedule.
World Masters of Snooker
March 4-6
The inaugural Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker takes place next week, marking professional snooker’s first foray into Saudi Arabia.
The top eight players from the official world rankings have been invited to compete alongside two wildcards from the Middle East region.
Ronnie O’Sullivan will head the lineup alongside Judd Trump, Mark Allen, Luca Brecel, Mark Selby, Shaun Murphy, Mark Williams, and Ali Carter.
Saudi Arabia’s Omar Alajlani and Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli complete the field.
Women’s World Championship
March 11-17
The Women’s World Championship will be staged in Dongguan, China for the first time this year.
Baipat Siripaporn is the reigning champion, but the form players from this season on the World Women’s Snooker Tour have been Mink Nutcharut and Ng On Yee.
Reanne Evans will make her bid to win the title for a record-extending 13th time, while up-and-coming talent Bai Yulu will be hoping to triumph for the first time on home soil.
Championship League Winners’ Group
March 12-13
The conclusion to this season’s invitational version of the Championship League was originally scheduled for the start of the month.
The two-day finale has been pushed back a couple of weeks and into the middle of March, with the seven group winners vying for the title.
The lineup will include defending champion John Higgins, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Stuart Bingham, Kyren Wilson, Chris Wakelin, and Joe O’Connor.
The winner will earn an invitation to the lucrative Champion of Champions next season.
Q Tour Global Play-offs
March 13-15
Michael Holt has already guaranteed his return to the pro scene after finishing as the top-ranked player on the feeder Q Tour.
There are a further three main tour cards available, with 24 players set to participate in the Q Tour Global Play-offs in Sarajevo.
The field will include several former professionals, including Peter Lines, Rory McLeod, and Vinnie Calabrese.
World Open
March 18-24
The World Open is back on the schedule for the first time since 2019, with Judd Trump finally getting an opportunity to defend his title.
A huge prize fund, with £170,000 going to the winner, ensures that it’s an important ranking event – particularly for those lower down the rankings.
The World Open will be the last opportunity for most of the tour’s contingent to earn money ahead of the campaign-concluding World Championship.
World Mixed Doubles
March 30-31
Back on the calendar for the second successive season, the World Mixed Doubles will again pair four top men with four of the best women players.
Neil Robertson and Mink Nutcharut return as defending champions, with Judd Trump partnering Baipat Siripaporn, Mark Allen in action with Rebecca Kenna, and world champion Luca Brecel paired with Reanne Evans.
What other snooker events are on in March 2024?
On the World Seniors Snooker Tour, the Mr. Vegas 900 format (March 2) will be played at Goffs in Ireland, with Stephen Hendry, Jimmy White, and Ken Doherty involved.
The EBSA European Amateur Championships (March 15-23) will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the main event and the under-21 tournament offering two coveted main tour cards.
On the World Disability Billiards and Snooker tour, the Belgian Open (March 15-17) is pencilled in for a return to The Trickshot in Bruges.
There are several other amateur events happening during March, with Snooker Hub offering a great resource to find local competitions across the UK.
