Martin Truex Jr. Announces Retirement from Full-Time NASCAR Racing as he goes on interview on what he’s going to do next after retirement
After a remarkable 21-year career in the NASCAR Cup Series, Martin Truex Jr. will retire from full-time racing at the end of the 2024 season. The 44-year-old from Mayetta, New Jersey, has enjoyed a stellar career, highlighted by a 2017 championship, 34 career wins, and a reputation as one of the most consistent and competitive drivers in the series.
Truex, who is currently preparing for his final Daytona 500 appearance in 2024, shared his excitement for a new chapter in his racing life. “This is a happy time for me,” said Truex, who recently secured the pole position for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway. “I’m excited about the future. I’m not done racing. I’m not hanging it up. I’m just going to do it for fun again.”
The decision to step away from the full-time grind comes after years of dealing with the pressure and demands of competing at the highest level of NASCAR. “There’s a lot of weight on your shoulders,” Truex explained. “
Despite his retirement from full-time racing, Truex confirmed that he will continue to race part-time, starting with the 2025 Daytona 500. He plans to reunite with his former crew chief, Cole Pearn, who helped him win the 2017 Cup Series title. “I’m going to be there, racing the Cup car,” Truex stated during an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “I’m retiring, but I’ll be at the very next race.”
Truex’s decision to scale back his racing commitments reflects his desire to reconnect with the sport on his own terms. “It’s every day, seven days a week,” Truex said of the demands of full-time racing. “You sacrifice a lot. I’m looking forward to racing the way I used to and just having fun, the old-school way.”
As Truex shifts to a more relaxed form of racing, he’s also looking forward to enjoying life outside the track, with plans to spend more time fishing and relaxing while others are on the road. His legacy as a driver and champion is secure, but his future in NASCAR promises to be just as fulfilling, albeit with a bit more leisure.
