Snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan believes Saudi Arabia could be the dominant side world champions future if the sport continues in the country. The Briton has been showering Middle Eastern crowds with applause since winning the season-opening World Snooker Championship in Riyadh earlier this week.
The racket was in impressive form in Saudi Arabia with a 4-1 semi-final win against Judd. Trump. – finals before coming from behind to beat Luca Brecel 5-2 in the final.
O’Sullivan pocketed £250,000 for the win and has high hopes for the development of snooker in Saudi Arabia, having been impressed by the country’s embrace of the sport at the Boulevard Arena.
\ nSpeaking to the World Snooker Tour after his win, the 48-year-old said: “I’m delighted. I came here to do well in this tournament. It’s the best players in the world . and it’s the first time he’s come to Saudi Arabia.
” They put on great events here, so it was great to be a part of it. But winning it is like icing on the cake. I played really well against John [Higgins], probably one of my best performances. I struggled a little against Judd, not finding my timing and things like that. But then I played a bit better in the final today, so hopefully some form will come back.
