Newsnow;Ronnie O’Sullivan worried he’ll embarrass himself

O’Sullivan admitted that he reduces his chances before a tournament to avoid embarrassment. The Rocket argues that it is better to downplay his performance at the event so that his words don’t come back to bite him.

O’Sullivan can be extremely critical of his performances. This despite the fact that they are seven-time world champions and the best snooker players of recent decades.

The 48-year-old is currently out of the Welsh Open due to stage fright, which he says is due to anxiety. Providing insight to Eurosport, he revealed his own expectations were “underestimated” before entering the tournament, although he insisted he knew what he was capable of.

“It’s better not to underestimate it,” said O’Sullivan. “We all know what we’re good at, but you don’t want to put yourself out there saying you’re great and then not deliver.

“It’s better to underbake, underpromise and overdeliver. , I think it’s always a nice way to be.”

O’Sullivan just saw Anthony McGill interview delivering a strong victory Mark Williams at McGill in Wales said he “hate the way I play snooker”, in a surprising reflection of his victory.

But O’Sullivan believes this reaction is normal and urged stars to seek advice from trusted friends. He says it’s better to hear what someone in the know thinks about a performance than to think you played poorly.

“You can have a great match and feel really terrible out there,” O’Sullivan continued. “But when you go back and look back on it, it could have been different. It’s difficult and you really should try not to judge your own performances..
