Remco Evenepoel Stuns Soudal – Quick-Step Teammates with New Moustache on Training Ride: “I’ll Shave It When Racing Starts”
Remco Evenepoel, still recovering from a training crash in December involving a BPost van in Belgium, made a surprise return to his Soudal – Quick-Step teammates during a training session for the upcoming Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Although his competitive return remains a work in progress, the double Olympic champion was seen joining his teammates for the ride, a sign of his continued commitment and progress on the road to recovery.
Evenepoel, known for his sense of humor, joked about his presence on the ride, saying, “Will I ride along? Yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be here,” according to quotes collected by Sporza. Despite his optimism, he acknowledged that his full return to racing is still a ways off, adding, “The desire is great, but at the moment not much is possible. But everything is okay. You will receive updates soon.”
However, it wasn’t just his return to cycling that caught the attention of fans and teammates alike. Evenepoel debuted a new look, sporting a moustache and goatee combination, which was a stark departure from his usual appearance. While it certainly made an impression, Evenepoel was quick to reassure fans that the facial hair wasn’t here to stay. “I’ll shave it off when it’s time to race again!” he laughed, making it clear that this new style was just a temporary experiment.
As Evenepoel continues to recover, fans can expect updates soon on his progress. For now, though, it’s clear that the Belgian star is already starting to find his way back to the training grind, even if he’s doing so with a bit of fun facial hair along the way.
