Remembering Jimmy Carlini and the Legacy of Blue-By-u
To some, he may be a name from the past; to others, a revered figure or a formidable rival. Yet, to me, he is simply Grandpa Jimmy Carlini, and this is his truck, Blue-By-u.
As a young child, I spent my formative years at the dirt track, where my father and grandfather raced with unmatched fervor. I was too young to fully grasp the intricacies of the sport, but I vividly remember the thrill of watching the super modified class, where the likes of Blue-By-u, Bad News, the 747, Speedy Gonzales, and Jack Attack roared down the track. Each truck was a legend in its own right, embodying the speed and spirit of an era that defined my childhood.
My recollections of those days are tinted with a mix of awe and trepidation. I was always hesitant to climb into Blue-By-u, yet the excitement of witnessing its power on the track was unparalleled. The most cherished
Though the sale of Blue-By-u marked the end of an era and we transitioned to hard track racing, the dirt track remains a sacred space in my heart. It was here that I learned the essence of racing, a place where every drop of sweat and every ounce of effort was invested in chasing dreams.
My grandfather, Jimmy Carlini, epitomized dedication. From the 1980s to the early 2010s, he poured his heart into every race, balancing his passion with relentless hard work. His commitment was driven by an undying love for the sport and an unyielding desire to compete at the highest level, regardless of the obstacles.
In honor of my grandfather’s legacy, I vow to return to the tracks one day with a race truck that embodies the spirit of Blue-By-u. It will be a tribute to the days of old—a testament to our roots and the camaraderie of a close-knit group of racers with enough grit and determination to compete with the best.
As I look back on those days, I am reminded that no matter where life takes me, the dirt track is where I truly belong. And while we may have moved on, the essence of those racing days, and my grandfather’s enduring passion, will forever drive me forward.
