Carmichael made it clear that there’s still a lot of “what-ifs” in this scenario: “They haven’t even raced each other yet,” he said. “I get that fans are excited about the potential, but we need to let them race each other before we can start labeling them as rivals.”

“I don’t think Haiden is scared to race Jett,” Carmichael stated. “But we also have to consider the fact that he’s still learning. He’s got a lot of respect for the sport, and perhaps he’s not rushing into the 450 class too soon, especially with riders like Eli Tomac still dominating at that level.”
Carmichael added that there’s a natural progression in motocross careers, and Deegan is likely being cautious about when to make the leap to the 450 class. “Eli Tomac, for example, has been in the 450 class for years and is still one of the toughest competitors out there. It’s a lot to take on for someone like Haiden, who’s still finding his rhythm in the 250 class.”
Respect for the Veterans
Another key aspect of Carmichael’s comments was the level of respect Haiden Deegan has for the veterans in the sport. By choosing not to rush into the 450 class, Deegan is showing maturity and understanding of the challenges that come with it. Carmichael noted that there’s no shame in taking the time to build confidence and experience before taking on the likes of Eli Tomac, Ryan Dungey, and Cooper Webb.
“This is a very tough sport, and Haiden knows that. He’s got his whole career ahead of him, and jumping into the 450 class too early might not be the best move for him right now. It’s not about fear; it’s about respecting the challenge,” Carmichael explained.
