RIVAL ROYALS : Following successful Nigeria trip Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle set to visit Nigeria Again despite First Lady’s nakedness jab, set to visit orphanages…
Meghan Markle has expressed her desire to return to Nigeria after her trip with Prince Harry, despite the First Lady’s harsh comments. Reports indicate that the Duchess of Sussex thanked the Nigerian monarch for the warm welcome she received during the trip.
This had personal significance because he learned through a DNA test that his ancestry was 43% Nigerian. After Prince Harry returned to the UK for the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in early May, the royal couple flew from London Heathrow to Nigeria. Meghan, who missed the London service, joined Harry at the airport before they boarded a British Airways flight to Africa.
As a gesture of gratitude, Meghan wrote a letter to Ison Oluwu, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, which was published by the Western Mail, the Mirror reports. The Duchess wrote: “Your Imperial Majesty, thank you for your warm welcome to Nigeria… Our visit to Nigeria was important for many reasons, not the least of which was the opportunity to explore and understand my heritage, which extends to our children we look forward to coming home one day. Meghan was with her husband on a 72-hour break in Nigeria last month.
After Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu looked at the outfit options for the Duchess during her visit to Nigeria. May was a busy month. The First Lady appeared to be critical of Meghan’s fashion sense, commenting on Nigerian girls and women who “imitate” American movie stars and their “nudity”.
At an event in Abuja to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s first term in office, the First Lady remarked: “Our message is that we must save our children. We see how they dress. They keep forgetting that Nigeria, we are. You see what they are performing on stage, I said, “We are in fashion, let’s see what happens.” And everything, nudity, is just everywhere and the men are well dressed. So we have to do something. Tell them that we do not accept nudity in our culture. It’s not pretty. It’s not pretty at all.” She continued, “And they’re all pretty girls, but they should be sure of who they are. They don’t want to imitate and try to imitate movie stars from America. They don’t know where they come from.” Later, the First Lady also asked: “Why did Meghan come here to look for Africa? “We know who we are. Don’t lose who you are.”.
