A young Federer, in his first appearance in the London Slam, defeated the All England Club’s absolute dominator on grass, who had lost only one of the last 57 matches played in London.
“I was junior champion at Wimbledon a couple of years before and that was the only time I faced him. It was a dream come true. Looking back, this might be my favorite match. It was my first time at Wimbledon, against my hero. I’m happy to have had the opportunity to play against him,” said Roger in the interview at the Mad Dog Unleashed SiriusXM.
It is therefore striking that the Swiss did not choose a match against historic rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. There have been 90 matches between Federer and the other two Big 3, with the 20-time slam champion achieving victory on 39 occasions. Federer, respected and loved by all for his elegance on and off the court, has forever marked the history of tennis, dominating together with Djokovic and Nadal for over twenty years.Despite his retirement in 2022, the 20-time Slam champion continues to remain in the hearts of all fans, the protagonist of interviews and public interventions to relive his extraordinary career. Out of 1229 matches played on the circuit, the former Swiss tennis player achieved victory on 991 occasions. An exceptional number.
