Sasa, Luka Doncic’s father appears to drop big hint about his son future with the Lakers

Luka Dončić’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers last month sent shockwaves through the NBA, with many fans and analysts wondering if the five-time All-Star would remain committed to the Lakers beyond his current contract. Dončić himself expressed disappointment over the trade, leading to speculation about his long-term future with the team. However, recent comments from Dončić’s father, Saša Dončić, may offer a glimpse of optimism for Lakers fans, hinting that the star guard might just be warming up to his new home.

In a recent interview with Slovenia’s Pop TV news station, Saša Dončić discussed his son’s transition to Los Angeles, and his words seem to suggest Luka is finding his place with the Lakers. A clip from the interview, subtitled and widely circulated on social media, raised eyebrows as Saša shared his thoughts on how the city and its unique atmosphere might be a good fit for Luka.

When asked about his concerns regarding the potential distractions and pressures that come with playing in Los Angeles, Saša said, “Yes, that’s true, but as I heard in L.A., celebrities are coming back to games. Maybe even Luka is the reason. He might be the reason they’re coming back.” He continued, “So, this has to be a motivation for him for the future. And we know that Luka plays better when the pressure is bigger. I just believe that he is born for this city and this city is made for him. I won’t say literally, but it fits with his character. I believe he’ll succeed there.”

While Saša’s comments do not definitively confirm that Luka will stay with the Lakers beyond his current contract, they certainly suggest that the Dončić family is seeing the positives of his new chapter in Los Angeles

. The comment that Luka is “born for this city” aligns with the narrative that L.A.’s bright lights and high expectations could inspire Luka to elevate his game further, much like he has throughout his career in Dallas.

That said, the uncertainty surrounding Luka’s long-term future with the Lakers remains. Dončić’s contract expires after the 2025-26 season, and there are plenty of questions surrounding the Lakers’ future, particularly in the post-LeBron James era. LeBron, at 40 years old, is nearing the end of his illustrious career, and how the Lakers plan for the future could play a significant role in Dončić’s decision. If the Lakers are able to create a solid, sustainable team that doesn’t rely solely on the aging superstar, they may be able to sell Luka on the idea of becoming the new face of the franchise.

Since joining the Lakers, Dončić has been performing at his usual elite level, averaging 27.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 7.8 assists across 18 games. The team is in playoff contention, and barring any major setbacks, the Lakers are poised to remain competitive in the postseason. It’s clear that Luka’s talent has seamlessly integrated into the Lakers’ system, but reports suggest that he will take his time before committing to the team long-term, preferring to see how things unfold in the coming seasons.

In the meantime, Saša’s comments provide hope for Lakers fans. Luka seems to be enjoying his time in Los Angeles, and with the right mix of success on the court and stability off it, there’s potential for a long-term partnership between the superstar and the franchise. Only time will tell if the City of Angels will become Luka Dončić’s permanent home. But for now, it’s clear that he’s embracing the challenge—and perhaps even thriving in it.
