Slash Quits X (Formerly Twitter) After Crypto Hack Scare: “I’m Stepping Away”

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has officially parted ways with X, formerly known as Twitter, following a security breach that saw his account hijacked and used to promote a crypto scam.

Last week, fans noticed some unusual activity on Slash’s X profile. The account began posting suspicious messages promoting a cryptocurrency dubbed “GUNS – the memecoin for every Guns N’ Roses fan!” The posts, which have since been deleted, immediately raised red flags within the rock community. It was later confirmed that Slash’s account had been compromised by crypto scammers.

This isn’t an isolated case in the world of rock. Metallica’s X account suffered a similar fate last summer when hackers used it to push fraudulent crypto schemes. With these repeated incidents, it’s becoming clear that high-profile musicians are increasingly being targeted by cybercriminals.

In response to the latest breach, Slash announced his departure from the platform with a direct statement to fans:

> “I’d like to inform you that I’ve decided to step away from Twitter/X and will no longer be active on the platform. This was a

considered decision after repeated hacks, and it reflects a shift in how I’d like to stay connected moving forward.”

While Slash is bowing out of X, he made it clear that he isn’t disappearing from social media altogether. Fans can still catch up with him on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, where he plans to continue sharing updates.

> “You can still find me on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook where I’ll be posting regular updates,” he added.

Slash joins a growing list of rock and metal artists who have either scaled back their activity or quit X entirely since Elon Musk took over the company in 2022. Concerns over platform stability, moderation, and security have led many artists to seek more controlled and secure environments to connect with their audiences.

So if you’re looking to keep up with Slash’s iconic riffs and updates on life and music, head over to his Instagram — if you dare. (If you know, you know.)
