Snooker star forced to lose weight due to dress code
Neil Robertson admitted the tight vest made him “organize his diet” and lose weight to improve his form at the table. The season was difficult for the Australian, who took some time away from snooker to mentally “restore”.
Robertson reached the top 16 for the first time this season at the German Masters, but the 2010 world champion could be outside the top 16. He recently bounced back and backed up that form with a win in the so-called Champions League group 4 in Berlin.
The 42-year-old is hoping to get back to his prime and told how behind the scenes a change in diet can help fuel his comeback. Robertson admitted that this season’s vest felt tighter than last, and he worked hard to lose weight and feel comfortable in the suit.
“I just had to sort out my diet,” Robertson said on the World Snooker Tour. – After a season that lasted 18 months or two years ago, I was maybe a bit complacent and lazy. I think we had four or five months off, which is a long time, and I never felt physically right.
“I still played great, but I never felt completely comfortable at that moment. I want to keep a slim structure where you feel good in the vest. Especially this season, I noticed some pressure around the vest. I don’t want to go to a tailor and make it bigger, I want to force myself to lose weight.
“I didn’t have to lose two stone or even a stone. It’s only a few pounds, but it makes a huge difference around the table. This is what I did and I feel very good. There were probably five or six boxes I had to tick to be the best, and I’m succeeding at that.
