Tim Gajser Faces in Shanghai as Championship Battle Intensifies
Tim Gajser’s bid for the 2024 MXGP Championship encountered a significant obstacle during a challenging race day in Shanghai, China. The event, originally scheduled over multiple days, was condensed into a single day with an early start and no breaks, exacerbating the difficulties posed by sweltering temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.
Gajser’s day started with adversity as he was involved in a crash at turn two during the first moto. The incident immediately relegated him to the back of the pack.
The results of the first moto had significant implications for the championship standings. Gajser lost the red plate, which he had held since round nine in Latvia, and fell four points behind rival Jorge Prado heading into the second race.
In the second moto, Gajser’s performance showed improvement as he secured a much better start and quickly moved into second place. Despite applying pressure on the leader, he was unable to make a pass and had to settle for second place. With the day’s results, Gajser now trails Prado by seven points with only one round remaining in the season.
Reflecting on the day, Gajser expressed his frustration and determination: “After such a consistent season, it’s hard to have a day like today at such a crucial moment. Losing the championship red plate with one round to go is definitely not what I wanted, and now I know I have to win them all with three races to go. It’s not an ideal situation, but I’m going to keep fighting and give it my all until the end.”
With the championship battle intensifying, Gajser’s resilience and fighting spirit will be crucial as he heads into the final round. The upcoming race promises to be a dramatic conclusion to the 2024 MXGP season, with Gajser determined to reclaim the top spot and secure the championship.
