Tim Lewis, the longtime NHRA Top Fuel co-owner and beloved team leader of Foley Lewis Racing, has tragically passed away, the team confirmed Monday afternoon through a heartfelt statement shared on social media. His death marks the end of a remarkable chapter for Foley Lewis Racing and the broader NHRA community, as Lewis was known for his business acumen, leadership, and larger-than-life personality.

Tim Lewis’ journey into the world of drag racing began in the late 1990s when he first crossed paths with Doug Foley at Foley’s drag racing school. This initial meeting sparked a partnership that would span nearly three decades and see them grow Foley Lewis Racing into a competitive powerhouse in the sport. Together, they moved from Alcohol Dragster competition to the Top Fuel category in 2004, solidifying their place in NHRA history.
Foley, who co-owns the team with Lewis and serves as the driver, shared an emotional tribute reflecting on their remarkable journey. “We travelled the country in our motorhome like we belonged in this class. We won, we lost, but most importantly, we always laughed,” Foley said. He went on to praise Lewis for his unshakeable support and invaluable influence. “Tim had a great personality and didn’t take life too seriously. He taught me to dream big, and he literally changed mine, Shelagh’s and the boys’ lives in so many ways, and for that we will always be grateful.”
