Tony Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, recently expressed his frustration with the current state of the sport, saying it’s no longer what it used to be. Reflecting on his long history with NASCAR, Stewart admitted that while change is inevitable, the direction the sport is heading no longer aligns with his views.
“NASCAR, you and I have been around it for a long time. It is not what it used to be,” Stewart said. He went on to explain that while some people may embrace these changes,
He pointed to the current conflicts between teams like 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports with NASCAR as examples of growing tension within the sport.
The legendary driver noted, “The direction that things are going, it’s not a direction that I wanna be a part of.” For Stewart, this marks a turning point in his relationship with NASCAR, and he feels it’s the right time to step away.
“I’m happy doing the stuff I’m doing now,” Stewart concluded, signaling a shift toward new pursuits outside of NASCAR. Though his exit is bittersweet for many fans, it’s clear Stewart is at peace with his decision — signaling that while the sport has changed, he’s ready for the next chapter of his life.
